Ways to Wellbeing - May 2019


Ways to Wellbeing is ONFife’s first festival of events focused on health and wellbeing. Taking place in May we aim to bring people together and promote all the ways we can help with positive wellbeing. From the feel good power of reading, dancing at Groove ON our dementia friendly disco, being Mindful with Martin Stepek, joining in with Bookbug or our interactive storytelling with Leo and the Lightning Dragons – we have something for everyone.



Curious Shoes

Curious Shoes is a joyful performance for people living with dementia and their loved ones to share. This funny, entertaining and beautifully simple story comes to life through live music, movement and very few words.



Martin Stepek

The Mindful Way to Become Castaway from Technology
ON at Kirkcaldy Galleries
£5 / conc £4 16+

Join Martin as he explores how we can make use of technology wisely while remaining in control of it, rather than it being in control of us, what it really means to be a castaway and take part in a guided mindfulness session.



Leo and the Lightning Dragons

Join us for a free storytelling session of Leo and the Lightning Dragon from St Andrews author Gill White, illustrated by Ladybank artist, Gilli B. Inspired by her son Leo’s fight with a rare form of epilepsy, Gill made him the star of this wonderful story. All royalties from sales of Leo and the Lighting Dragons are being donated to Children’s Hospices Across Scotland – better known as CHAS.



Bookbug Week

Bookbug’s Big Picnic is the theme for Bookbug Week 2019, a perfect reason to get together, sing songs, read books and eat sandwiches! Shake out your picnic blankets and venture down to the library, you’ll be sure of a Bookbug Big Picnic surprise.

Get into the picnic mood with not one, but two Big Picnics celebrating 30 years of the Children’s Classic – We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury, held at Lochgelly Centre on 13 May and Rothes Hall on 16 May.

Get your black leathers and your pink jackets at the ready. Enjoy reliving and singing your hearts out to hits such as Summer Nights, You’re the One that I Want and Greased Lightnin’! This screening offers those living with dementia an opportunity to see the film in a relaxed and welcoming environment, where the lights are turned up and the sound is turned down.

Matt Dickinson: Chaos on Everest

Meet Matt, climber, writer and Channel 4 film-maker. Someone who understands how to cope when faced with a challenge (like going to the loo when its 40 degrees below zero, or what to do if you lose your food and shelter half way up Everest!) Discover his fascinating film footage and breath-taking photography and experience Everest for yourself.


Moments in Time

A series of free, relaxed sessions specifically designed to provide those living with dementia an opportunity to revisit a time in their lives. Over a cup of tea and biscuits, meet others living with dementia, their family and friends and enjoy stories, poems, photographs and music, transporting you to your own moment in time.

Mindfulness Walk ON

During May take some time to get outdoors and join us at a mindfulness Walk ON session. The perfect way to clear your mind, relax and refocus, the sessions start with a short guided mindful walk followed by an informal book chat over a cuppa.

Have a break from the routine, get out, join in and Walk ON. Our regular Walk ON groups will be walking mindfully during May at the following times. Places limited so please call ahead to book a space.

FREE | Ages 5+

Pop along to the library after school and read a story to Jilli the gorgeous Therapet dog. It'll be PAWSOME!
