Martin Stepek will deliver a talk on the theme of mindfulness and technology, how we can make use of technology wisely while remaining in control of it rather than it being in control of us. When studying with a Tibetan Buddhist group Martin spent a month without any contact with family or friends, half of the time in complete solitude. Yet he writes regularly, is active on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. So it’s not as simply as cutting down your time, or using little tips here and there. Living fully in the present moment is a philosophy, a way of being, and when and how we communicate is a major part of living mindfully. Join Martin as he explores what it really means to be a castaway, what it means to have a real friend when you need one, as Robinson Crusoe had in Friday, and even how to live fully when a crisis wrecks your plans as happened to Alexander Selkirk three hundred years ago. His talk will include a guided mindfulness session.
