Title Fede ring
Object Name ring
Date 15th century
Place Kinglassie, Fife
Description

The bezel comprises two clasped hands either side of which is a sacred heart engraved with what may be a schematic rendition of the tree of life. Four panels then make up the rest of the band – three panels each bear a letter to make up the holy monogram I H S with a further letter N for Nazarene and the whole inscription then reads as an abbreviation for ‘Jesus of Nazareth’. This is an ornate example of a fede ring with much of the internal gilding intact and the engraving sharp and finely executed.
